01 - 1.76 lb potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
02 - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced

06 - 1 oz unsalted butter, for greasing and dotting

07 - 5.3 oz cooked ham, diced

08 - 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
09 - 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
10 - 1/2 tsp salt, adjust to taste
11 - Pinch of nutmeg

12 - 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
# How to Make:
01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a medium baking dish approximately 8x12 inches with butter.
02 - Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish. Spread half of the chopped onions, minced garlic, diced ham, and grated Gruyère over the potatoes. Season with salt, black pepper, thyme, and a pinch of nutmeg.
03 - Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, onions, ham, and cheese. Season again with the same spices.
04 - Evenly pour the heavy cream over the layered ingredients. Scatter the remaining butter in small pieces on top.
05 - Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes until the ingredients meld and soften.
06 - Remove the foil and continue baking for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
07 - Allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
